 Fleetwood Mac's Dynamic Duo

Blacklight Bar

Lindsey Buckingham, 67, and Christine McVie, 73, open up about their first-ever collaborative
album and how they keep the peace with their notoriously fragile band.

By Kevin O'Donnell in Entertainment Weekly

Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVieIt's amazing to think that after four decades playing together in Fleetwood Mac, Lindsey Buckingham Christine McVie is your first time teaming up. How'd it come about?

McVIE I was coming over from England to rehearse for the tour. [McVie rejoined the group in 2014 after 16 years away.] I had been sending Lindsey some demos, transatlantic, and he'd been working in his studio on some of my songs. And when I got to America, we thought we'd go into the studio to reacquaint myself to playing in a rock band. We started laying down a couple of tracks, and then Lindsey had some things... We just started having a good time.

You cut the album at the VIllage Studios in L.A. -- the same space where you made 1979's Tusk. What was it like to return there?

'Lindsey Buckingham Christine McVie'
Released via Atlantic Rhino on June 9, 2017, Lindsey Buckingham Christine McVie is the Fleetwood Mac members' first ever album as a duo, and is being followed by a run of special U.S. concerts.
~
BUCKINGHAM It was a time warp!

McVIE Nothing much had changed, as far as I can remember. But the Tusk days were a little bit of a haze, to be honest. [Laughs]

No late-night parties this time?

McVIE We'd start about midday and finish about five or six. We didn't burn the midnight oil, but it was terrific fun! I love being in the studio, too. I have a ball.

Lindsey, how does collaborating with Christine differ from, say, working with your ex Stevie Nicks, as you did on 1973's Buckingham Nicks album?

BUCKINGHAM That was such a different thing. It was an extension of Stevie and I being a couple. What makes Christine and me so effective is that [this album] is a little more based on musicianship and something intangible, something greater than the sum of its parts. There's also a maturity and a perspective in the choices we've made.

The Mac wrapped up a world tour in 2015, and you two are going on the road this summer. For a band that's had well-documented rifts, how does everyone get along these days?

BUCKINGHAM Well, the most beautiful thing about the band is that, over the last couple of tours, we've just seen people coming to our shows that are older, and you see...

McVIE Their grandkids!

BUCKINGHAM Yeah, teenagers! And it helps us as a group: you appreciate not only the effort we've put into the band over the years, but it helps us appreciate each other. Back in the day, being in Fleetwood Mac was not always a picnic.

McVIE Not at all. [Laughs]

BUCKINGHAM It's nice to know it wasn't all for nothing.

 Meet Rock's Newest Supergroup

Roadcase Royale sign with Loud & Proud Records, and release their debut in September.

By Miles High Productions

Roadcase Royale - 'First Things First'Roadcase Royaleancy Wilson, one of the founding members of the legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group Heart, has teamed up with former Prince's New Power Generation band member and R&B singer Liv Warfield to form the soulful, rock super group, Roadcase Royale. The band recently signed with Loud & Proud Records and plan to release their debut album, First Things First, September 22, 2017. The album was produced by fellow Roadcase Royale band member Dan Rothchild (Heart) along with the band.

"Nancy and Liv are magic together, and the musicianship is outstanding," said Tom Lipsky, President Loud & Proud Records. "The interesting blend of talents and influences is what makes Roadcase Royale special. Most importantly, there is a fire within this group to do something original, to feed off each other and explore new creative directions. It is exciting to see that kind of passion and drive in artists that have already accomplished so much. We are proud to be their label partners."

"Roadcase Royale is a band I've always wanted to be in," says Nancy Wilson. "We all write and create songs as a unit. It's an inspired democracy. Liv and Ryan both bring a whole new level of magic to our new sound. I'm amazed after devoting my life to rock music how it now feels so brand new. That's why our first album is called First Things First."

Earlier this year, Rolling Stone premiered the live performance video of their debut single "Get Loud" saying, "...the band builds a funky, nimble groove, led by Warfield's soulful belting and the acoustic/electric guitar attack of Wilson and Prince protégé Ryan Waters." The video was shot by celebrated photographer, Neal Preston. "Get Loud" with its laid-back groove, provides a solid acoustic and electric foundation for Warfield's vocals -- all about getting loud and standing up for women's equality. "Get Loud" blends this important message with the group's R&B and rock influences, resulting in a uniquely powerful track.

The name of the band, Roadcase Royale came to the group during a backstage meeting they had last year. Wilson said, "When I came up with the name Roadcase Royale it was an interesting symbol to me since the big heavy-duty road cases that our amps drums and guitars travel in are much like the musicians they accompany on the road. Strong and regal looking yet all scuffed up and dented, covered in funny stickers that tell the story of a crazy traveling circus."

In addition to Wilson (guitar) and Warfield (vocals), Roadcase Royale features Ryan Waters (lead guitarist) along with Heart members Chris Joyner (keys), Dan Rothchild (bass), and Ben Smith (drums). The sextet made their live debut March 25, 2017 at the 5th Annual Rock Against MS Benefit Concert in Los Angeles.

The band will play several headline dates beginning September 10, 2017 at The Gramercy Theatre in New York and will embark on a major U.S. tour this fall, dates to be announced soon.
